The Village Story™ · The Front Porch

How The Village Was Born

Pull up a chair. There's room for one more.

Come in. Let me introduce you to my Village.

People have asked me where The Village Formation Model™ came from.

The truth is, it didn't begin with a theory. It began with a people. My people. My Village.

Long before I understood psychology, science, research, or education, I was already being shaped. Not by textbooks. Not by classrooms. Not by frameworks. But by ordinary people living extraordinary lives.

I didn't realize it then, but each of them entrusted me with a gift. Not gifts wrapped in paper. Gifts that could only be discovered by watching how they lived.

Looking back now, I realize those gifts became the roots of everything The Village would one day become. I didn't create these gifts. I inherited them.

It took me years, months, and days of curiosity, intention, discipline, and the obedience to listen and pause before I could recognize the gifts I had inherited and understand how to steward them forward.

The Four Pillars

The great-grandparents who hold the porch up.

The foundation the whole table stands on.

GrandMommy

Entrepreneurship, beauty care, and dignity.

She showed me that serving people well is both a craft and an act of love. Those gifts continue to shape the way I serve today.

That's why The Village believes every person carries gifts worth discovering, cultivating, and expressing with dignity.

GrandDaddy G-Bud

Music, craftsmanship, restoration, and the value of lifelong learning.

He showed me that education doesn't end when school does. If you're willing to stay curious, do the research, and keep learning, you'll never stop growing. I still learn something new every day because of him.

That's why learning in The Village isn't confined to a classroom. It's a lifelong invitation to remain curious.

Ma

Cultivation, patience, and growth.

She taught me that healthy things grow when they're given the right conditions. Gardens don't bloom overnight. Neither do people.

That's why The Village exists to create conditions where people can grow at their own pace.

Dad

The power of the table.

Some of life's most meaningful conversations happen around a shared meal. The food gathered us. The conversation formed us.

That's why The Table became the heart of The Village. It's where people gather, belong, listen, and grow together.

At The Table

The ones who set a place for me.

Grandma Ruth

Love in Action, long before I had words for it.

Her home was a village. The neighborhood children always had a place. There was always room for one more. She didn't just talk about love. She lived it.

She taught me that you have to be in the right posture to both give and receive. You cannot give from a closed hand. Nor can you receive with a closed hand. Love requires an open posture.

That's why Love in Action™ became one of the foundations of The Village. Because love isn't simply something we believe. It's something we live.

Busta

Belonging before performance.

He taught me to honor people by name — because sometimes a person's name is all they have to show up as. Everyone deserves to be seen before they're expected to prove themselves.

That's why belonging comes before performance in The Village. Everyone deserves a place before they're asked to prove anything.

Auntie Marilyn

To pursue education without letting it define my identity.

She pursued education to its highest levels, yet she carried her knowledge with humility, gratitude, and a deep foundation of faith. She reminded me that what we learn matters most when it shapes how we live.

That's why The Village values both learning and humility. Knowledge matters most when it transforms how we live.

Mama Nae'  ·  Dawn Renee'

Life. My name. My meaning.

Affectionately known to me as Mama, and to readers throughout the Village Roots Publishing stories as Mama Nae', she gave me the gift of life — and with it, my name and my meaning. She gave me the gift of wholeness. The gift of truth. She gave me the vision and the language long before I had either.

She taught me that truth could withstand anything and repair everything. She taught me to keep listening. To keep pausing. To keep paying attention. She taught me how to steward forward.

That's why The Village begins with curiosity. Curiosity teaches us to listen. To pause. To pay attention. To recognize the gifts we've inherited, discover the truth they hold, and understand how to steward them forward.

Curiosity Changed Everything

For a long time, I thought I was building something. Then I discovered I was inheriting something.

The more curious I became, the more I realized I had to understand the roots before I could fully appreciate the harvest. Only then did I realize I was stewarding the legacy of those gifts forward.

I didn't create these gifts. I inherited them.

Why The Village Exists

Over time, I began to see that what once felt like separate lessons were never separate at all.

The table. The garden. The workshop. The beauty shop. The classroom. The conversations. The acts of love.

They were never isolated moments. They were one story. The Village Story.

Today, those inherited gifts continue to live through The Village Formation Collective™, Youth & Family Haven LLC, and Village Roots Publishing LLC. Different expressions. One commitment.

Creating conditions where people can discover who they are, cultivate what they carry, and express their gifts in ways that strengthen individuals, families, communities, and humanity.

The Village didn't begin as an organization. It began as an inheritance. One generation entrusted gifts to the next. One conversation at a time. One lesson at a time. One act of love at a time.

Now I'd Like to Ask You Something

What gifts have you inherited?

What have the people in your life entrusted to you?

What have you been carrying that you may not have recognized yet?

What legacy are you being invited to steward forward?

Whether your curiosity is leading you inward… outward… or beside someone else — there's a place for you here. I invite you to steward your gifts here, in The Village.

Your journey starts here.
Your chair is waiting.
We've been expecting you.

This Story Isn't Finished

What you've just read is only the beginning.

The Village Story™: An Inheritance of Gifts

It goes deeper into the people, the moments, the questions, and the quiet lessons that shaped everything you've just experienced. It is the story behind the story — a story of inheritance, of curiosity, of stewardship, and of discovering that some of life's greatest gifts aren't created. They're entrusted.

If today's story stirred something in you, I hope you'll continue the journey with me.
